Abstract
To the Editor: Approximately one in six couples in the United States is experiencing infertility. The aging of the baby-boom generation, delayed childbearing, and a decreased availability of infants for adoption all contribute to the increasing requests for infertility services in the 1980s.1 In the past, many of these couples remained childless. Now that medical technology offers almost endless hope for infertile couples, however, when to stop has become a difficult question to answer. When the treatment offered is in vitro fertilization (IVF), determined couples may initiate many cycles with the hope that with one more try they will succeed . . .Keywords
