Abstract
The different resting postures of the mallard were identified and studied in relation to weather. The weather highly affected the frequencies of the different postures. On overcast days, in summer and in winter with frost, a lying posture with the beak behind the wing was preferred. In summer, the presence of the sun inhibited the tendency to tuck the beak behind the wing. The standing postures were recorded with very high frequencies during precipitation and thaw. On calm, clear days the mallards preferred to orientate with respect to the sun. A posture, which can be interpreted as sunbathing, is described. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
