Luteotropic Effects of Prolactin in the Bovine Ovary

Abstract
Pro-lactin as well as LH [luteinizing hormone] augmented the progesterone secretion rate of corpus luteum bearing (luteal)-bovine ovaries perfused in vitro. LH augmented the progesterone secretion of luteal ovaries as well as the contralateral "follicular" ovaries; prolactin augmented the progesterone secretion rate of luteal ovaries only. These data suggest that prolactin as well as LH has a role in the luteotropic process of the bovine species.
