Abstract
Based on considerations of the reactive content of the optical potential, and on the eikonal approximation, a surprisingly simple connection is established near the 3,3 resonance between the lowest-order forward single charge-exchange cross section for excitation of the nuclear isobaric analogue state and the nuclear inelastic cross section. This relationship is tested numerically. Keywords
