Genetic Variation in the Marten, Martes americana

Abstract
Starch gel electrophoresis was used to survey genetic variation of proteins from the blood and livers of 10 martens, Martes americana, captured in Wyoming. Twenty-four gene loci were surveyed, and genetic variation was detected at 33% of the loci. Average heterozygosity was estimated to be 17%. These values are above previously reported averages for terrestrial carnivores.
