Theory of Vortex Lines in Liquid Helium 4

Abstract
An integro-differential equation for the function characterizing the structure of a vortex line is obtained from a variational calculation. Certain approximations enable this function to be determined purely in terms of the pair correlation function of the fluid at rest. The trapping of He3 atoms by vortex lines in He4 is also discussed, and is reduced to the solution of a Schrödinger equation with an effective radial potential.Keywords
