Abstract
The reaction of the pentoses D-xylose, D- and L-arabinose and D-ribose with anthrone was investigated. Production of a heat-stable blue-green color by these sugars is primarily dependent on the concentration of anthrone. Excess of anthrone appears to destroy the color rapidly. The conditions for determining pentose sugars by the anthrone reaction are defined. Keywords
