Abstract
The inhibitory effect of sodium pentobarbital on histamine stimulated gastric secretion was studied in Heidenhain pouch dogs. An intravenous injection of sodium pentobarbital in a dose of 26 mg/kg produced significant inhibition of secretion at dose levels of histamine from 5.5 µg/histamine base/kg/10 min to 22 µg/histamine base/kg/10 min. The degree of inhibition produced was inversely proportional to the dose of histamine used but was not dependent on the depth of anesthesia. It is concluded that this effect is probably a direct effect on the parietal cell. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
