Abstract
A simple extension is given of a criterion of Naur & Osterbrock for the occurrence of convective cores in stars. It is shown that the new criterion agrees with existence of a convective core in a recent main sequence stellar model of Bennick & Motz, even though the P–P chain is responsible for the majority of the energy generation throughout the core. It is suggested that low mass main sequence stars with no convective core may develop such cores as they evolve into the giant branch.
