Abstract
‘Grasslands Pitau’ and ‘Grasslands Huia’ were oversown in replicated paddocks on steep, unimproved hill country, and thereafter the pasture was grazed continuously at high stocking rates for 5 years. Pitau produced more dry matter over the 5-year period on both replications, although total dry matter production was not significantly better. Live-weight gains of hoggets were generally higher on the Pitau paddocks than on Huia or control where no clover was oversown. Variety behaviour under this management is discussed. Keywords
