Normal ordering for continuum fields by functional differentiation

Abstract
We rederive the normal-ordering theorem of Blow et al. [Phys. Rev. A 42, 4102 (1990)] by the use of functional derivatives. This method does not require the introduction of a set of noncontinuous operators as an intermediate step.Keywords
