THE DETERMINATION OF URINARY STEROIDS. I. THE PREPARATION OF PIGMENT-FREE EXTRACTS AND A SIMPLIFIED PROCEDURE FOR THE ESTIMATION OF TOTAL 17-KETOSTEROIDS

Abstract
A procedure which eliminates the need for the preliminary separation of ketonic from nonketonic fractions in the routine detn. of urinary 17-ketosteroids is descr. Hydrolyzed urine is shaken with ethylene chloride, 1 vol. ethylene chloride per vol. urine, and the latter is then shaken with solid NaOH, 2 pellets/ml., to remove pigments. The Zimmermann reaction is carried out on an aliquot of the ethylene chloride.
