Abstract
Na3SbS4 · 9H2O and Na3SbS4 · 9D2O exhibit distinct differences in their optical, dielectric, elastic, and thermal properties like water and three species of the alums: at 20°C the deuterate possesses a larger mole volume, smaller refractive indices, smaller optical activity, smaller dielectric constant, higher energy of activation in the short-wave range of the spectrum, and smaller elastic longitudinal resistances than the hydrate. The differences in thermal expansion and thermoelastic behaviour are correlated. But otherwise the thermal isotope effects of hydrates and deuterates are not uniform. In piezoelectric and electrooptic constants as well as in thermal conductivity certain isotope effects could not yet be detected.
