Abstract
The 1983 recipient of the Midwestern Section Younger Animal Scientist Teaching Award is Darrel J. Kesler. Dr. Kesler was born September 21, 1949, at Portland, Indiana. He was reared on a dairy and grain farm and while a youth was very active in both 4-H and FFA, receiving a number of national awards. Dr. Kesler earned his B.S. in Animal Sciences in 1971 and M.S. in Reproductive Physiology in 1974 from Purdue University. Following completion of his Ph.D. at the University of Missouri in Reproductive Physiology in 1977, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Animal Science at the University of Illinois. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1981. That Dr. Kesler is an outstanding teacher is amply demonstrated by the high student evaluations he receives every semester, the consistent inclusion of his name on the University of Illinois “Incomplete List of Teachers Ranked Excellent by Their Students,” and the recognition by his peers who honored him in 1982 with the “Animal Science Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and Counseling.” Copyright © 1983.
