Distributed power-a solution for the 90s

Abstract
The telecommunication industry has witnessed several major technological changes within the system equipment, architectures and the operating topologies. For power equipment vendors however, it is only with the trend towards network decentralization that system or equipment changes have triggered interest for different approaches to powering. This paper presents a distributed power plant (DPP) architecture which can be deployed effectively in both central and remote offices, in either large or small configurations. The system architecture, the market requirements, the issues of cost and space savings, the considerations for reliability and safety are all discussed and evaluated in comparison to the more traditional centralized power plant approach.
