Abstract
Details of a case of selective corrosion of Inconel and a tentative mechanism by which it proceeds are presented in this paper. Sheet, rod and tube samples were tested in the as-received condition by complete immersion in a fused salt bath. Tests were carried out at 800 C for tests times up to 50 days. It was found that a layer of porous sponge-like material formed on the surface. Chromium and iron were preferentially leached out of these layers. 6.3.10Keywords
