Abstract
A new approach to the prevention of protein-calorie deficiency syndromes in young children is considered, in which emphasis is laid on the positive objective of achieving normal growth. Experience has shown that a simple weight chart is the most satisfactory method of measuring growth and assessing the state of nutrition. By the use of such a weight chart, the liability of the child to develop kwashiorkor or marasmus may usually be foretold months ahead. Success in measures to prevent the condition is at once apparent from the change in direction of the child''s weight curve. Keywords
