Abstract
A new procedure, based upon a modification of the Cohen-Henriquez equation, is proposed, which facilitates the determination of dipole moments in non-polar solvents, particularly for temperatures far from room temperature. The necessity for measuring the density of the solution is replaced by the simpler measurement of refractive index. Using a computer programme devised to compare the results obtained from the new procedure with those from the Halverstadt and Kumler method, there was excellent agreement for a large number of compounds chosen for their varied physicochemical characteristics. Some new dipole moments are reported. Keywords
