Ventricular Diastolic Threshold in Hypothermia

Abstract
Pentobarbitalized and thiopentalized dogs subjected to immersion hypothermia without benefit of artificial respiration except at body temperatures below 26[degree]C separate spontaneously into 2 groups: (1) a small group whose diastolic thresholds remain near normal (2.5-3.0 milliamperes) all the members of which cool to 15[degree]-18[degree]C when asystole terminates life, and (2) a larger group (about 70%) whose thresholds decrease to less than 1.4 milliamperes, 90% of which succumb to ventricular fibrillation between 25[degree] and 19[degree]C.
