Abstract
Creatine kinase (C. P. K. ) levels were studied in cerebrospinal fluid samples from 66 patients with various neurological disorders and 30 verified cases of cerebral tumor. Determinations of C. P. K. were also made in samples of cerebrospinal fluid and tumor tissue in 10 patients. Normal levels of C. P. K. in cerebrospinal fluid range from 0-0. 06 i. u. Raised levels up to 5. 0 i. u. have been found in samples from patients with astrocytoma, medulloblastoma, symptomatic epilepsy, progressive hydrocephalus and benign intracranial hypertension. In none of the tumors was the C. P. K. level as high as in the brain. Only small amounts of enzyme were found in meningioma, acoustic neuroma and a colloid cyst. No correlation in the amounts of C. P. K. in cerebrospinal fluid and tumor samples was evident. Keywords
