Abstract
Resonance scattering of laser light has been used to study electronic depopulation rates in a low-temperature hydrogen plasma for excited states with quantum numbers n=3, 4, 6 and 7. It turns out that the relatively low cross sections for this process predicted by semiclassical impact-parameter models fit the measured data within the experimental errors. Keywords
