Intracellular Potassium Concentration in Normal and Diabetic Rat Liver.

Abstract
Blood glucose, Na and K were determined for normal and alloxan diabetic rats. The livers of these animals were analyzed for water, K, Na and glycogen and the results expressed per g of fat free tissue. Using these data, and the assumption that the Na liver is entirely extracellular, the extracellular and intracellular water were calculated. Calculated intracellular K was 187 meq/kg of intracellular water for the normal, and 184 for the diabetic. The difference is without significance. No differences in the distribution of water, Na or K were found in normal and diabetic rat liver.
