NEURODERMATITIS WITH CATARACT

Abstract
Prior to 1921 there were no American reports on the syndrome of cataract associated with neurodermatitis. In the European literature, however, Rothmund,1in 1868, described the occurrence of cataract in connection with changes in the skin. Andogsky2used the term "cataracta dermatogenes" in describing a case of bilateral cataract with an associated cutaneous eruption. Similar cases have been reported by Löwenstein,3Gault,4Winkler5and others. The first report in the English language was that of Davis,6who, in 1921, described the case of a 15 year old girl with neurodermatitis accompanied by cataracts, which matured in one year. Daniel,7from the Mayo Clinic, in 1935, reported 3 cases and mentioned the importance of a family history of allergy.
