Abstract
Continuous infusion of synthetic pitocin (Syntocinon) in the jugular vein of pregnant sheep during the last half of gestation was not able to elicit rhythmic contractions of the uterus. However, an increase in tonus was recorded. Since sheep blood contains no pitocinase, the author suggests that pitocin acts efficiently only in conjunction with pitocinase. Keywords
