Abstract
In order to prove that experimental results would be applicable to prototype conditions with reasonable accuracy according to Froude's law of similarity and that the sliding of vertical blocks in the walls of composite-type breakwaters exposed to severe breaking waves occurred at the instant the resultant of the maximum simultaneous shock pressures exceeded the resisting forces of those blocks to sliding, 1/20 and 1/10 scale tests were performed. The validity of using previously derived equations directly for the design of actual breakwaters exposed to large waves is proven. Safe design dictates that partial absorption of the shock pressure in the rubble mound to be disregarded in the design of actual breakwaters. Keywords
