Abstract
The higher order corrections to geometrical optics are studied in general relativity for an electromagnetic test wave. An explicit expression is found for the average energy–momentum tensor which takes into account the first‐order corrections. Finally the first‐order corrections to the well‐known area‐intensity law of geometrical optics are derived.Keywords
