This analysis of 1,836 cases of infantile paralysis consists of a study of the records of the first round of the poliomyelitis clinics of the New York State Department of Health, which began, Oct. 17, 1916, and finished, Jan. 20, 1917. The paper is an abstract of a preliminary report on the scientific side of the work, presented to the New York State commissioner of health, to whom I am indebted for permission to publish these data. Extensive tabulation has been made of many points in the report to the commissioner, with whom have been deposited all the original records from which these data are drawn. The presentation here of a large number of tables would be simply confusing and defeat the purpose which I have in mind, which is merely to call attention to four salient points which I believe these figures show.
