Vibrational relaxation and sound absorption in O2/H2O mixtures

Abstract
Measurements of the sound absorption in O2/H2O mixtures have been made at 400° and 500°K. The results have been compared with measurements made by others at room temperature and analyzed by the Bauer, Shields, and Bass method to determine values and limits of errors for the rate constants. The v-t deexcitation rate in H2O/H2O collisions was found to vary from 1.0 to 0.75 × 109/sec-atm and the v-v rate between O2 and H2O was found to vary from 3.8 to 1.5 × 107/sec-atm as the temperature increased from 300° to 500°K.
