ELECTRON MICROSCOPY OF CERTAIN MUSCLE LESIONS IN PATIENTS WITH PITUITARY-THYROID DISORDERS

Abstract
Previous histochemical studies revealed intra-sarcolemmal accumulations of hyaluronidase-sensitive acid mucopolysaccharide ("half .moon" phenomenon) in the skeletal muscles of patients suffering from progressive exophthalmos, thyrotoxicosis, and acromegaly, and in a single case of myxedema. Electron microscopic studies confirmed that these structureless accumulations are situated inside the sarcolemma and outside the muscular substance.
