Concurrent Validity of the Child Behavior Checklist as Completed by Staff in Residential Treatment Settings

Abstract
Concurrent validity for the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) was studied in subjects placed in three residential treatment centers (RTC). The concurrent measures were routinely recorded behavior problems or interventions occurring in all three RTCs. The CBCL Externalizing Score and CBCL Total Score were significantly correlated with these behavioral measures indicating concurrent validity of the CBCL Total and Externalizing Scores. Practical applications, based on this validation study in RTCs, are discussed.
