Abstract
Phaeoseptoria eucalypti Hansf., a newly recorded fungal pathogen, was identified on Eucalyptus camaldulensis and E. tereticornis trees in Malawi where it caused mortality of young plants in the Rumphi district. A survey indicated that the pathogen was pandemic. An association between the pathogen and arable land was observed. It is suspected that the pathogen spreads from arable land to the eucalypts. Possible control measures are discussed, of which sanitary pruning as was applied in Rumphi is recommended. This report is the first of P. eucalypti in Africa. Keywords
