I deeply appreciate being selected as the recipient of the Founder's Memorial Award this year. It is an honor to deliver a lecture in recognition of James Fletcher, one of the great pioneers in entomology in the Americas. The topic I have chosen involves some complex calculations. My problem has been to condense the material to stay within the time limitation and to present it so that it will be meaningful.
