Abstract
A formalism, based on the use of pseudopotentials and the Gibbs-Bogoliubov inequality, is presented for the investigation of thermodynamic properties of solid random alloys. An application is made to the Mg-Cd system and the results for excess entropy and heat of alloying are in satisfactory agreement with experiment. Keywords
