Sexuality After Hysterectomy and Castration

Abstract
Hysterectomy is the most common major operation for women and elective hysterectomy is frequently suggested. Women are told there will be no effect on thier sexuality although careful reading of the literature shows important changes which can be anticipated. If the women's ovaries are removed, it is female castration and affects her sexuality even more. Research on women's experience of hysterectomy does not adequately assess sexual effects. A new, integrative approach is needed.
