Abstract
When the focused beams of a pulsed CO2 laser and a cw CO2 laser were superimposed, the pulsed gas breakdown threshold was raised. It was found that the increase in the threshold was dependent on the gas pressure and cw power. When the intensities obtained with different focal diameters were compared, it was found that the cw gas breakdown threshold has a 1/r2 dependence on the radius of the focused cw power spot. Keywords
