Abstract
Senile macular degeneration is usually due to a genetic factor, as it is demonstrated by the concordance in monozygotic twins. The inheritance is either autosomal recessive or, more frequently, autosomal dominant. The penetrance and the expressivity of the gene of senile macular degeneration is variable, but the appearance of various forms in the same family demonstrates that there is no fundamental difference between these forms.
