FORCED CONVECTION IN A SATURATED POROUS MEDIUM

Abstract
This paper presents a simplified heat transfer model explaining the relative effects of conduction and forced convection in a liquid saturated porous media. Fluid flow is assumed to be steady, and to obey Darcy's Law. A specific cylindrical geometry is chosen and the steady, two-dimensional temperature distribution is calculated for various boundary conditions. A preliminary experiment has been performed to test one set of boundary conditions, and good aggreement has been found between this experiment and the model's prediction of the temperature field.
