Abstract
Insect sex attractants are of considerable practical interest inasmuch as it is possible with their aid to control and to combat certain damaging species of insects selectively with minimum damage of the environment. Instead of the known multistage syntheses the metathesis reaction offers the possibility to produce some insect sex pheromones inexpensively on a large commercial scale starting with cheap petrochemicals. Thus, the sex attractants of the common housefly, of the face fly and of the gypsy moth could be prepared by using suitable starting alkenes and homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysts. Keywords
