Abstract
Having to cope with the growth of world food demand, many countries have chosen to rely on the realisation of big agroindustrial complexes that are now broadly called agrobusiness. Agrobusiness — a different concept to that of plantation (itself on the way of vanishing) — can be summarised as : big size of the estate ; state control but international financing ; realisation, engeneering, technology and management imputed from developed countries ; very few links with the former agricultural structures. To illustrate this the paper looks at sugar agrobusiness.
