Abstract
The imaginary potential for fast electrons scattered thermally by crystals is evaluated exactly in Born approximation in terms of a correlation function. This result gives the correct temperature dependence for the imaginary potential. The previously obtained one-phonon approximate result has an incorrect temperature dependence. Numerical evaluations of the imaginary potential for copper and lead are given (for an Einstein model). Keywords
