Abstract
A 36-year-old man developed impotence and hip claudication while on methysergide maleate therapy. He was demonstrated to have hyperuricemia and had recently received a sympathomimetic amine for weight reduction. Physical examination and oscillometric readings confirmed the presence of a generalized vaso-spastic reaction, which could not be modified by administration of sympathomimetic amines or adrenergic blocking agents. Discontinuation of methysergide maleate was followed by rapid disappearance of symptoms, abnormal physical findings, and abnormal oscillometric readings. These unique observations are not adequately explained by any of the recognized pharmacologic actions of methysergide maleate. Keywords
