Abstract
The magnetic properties of electrons within one narrow band are studied. Only intra-atomic Coulomb and exchange integrals are considered. The stability of the non-magnetic state is studied within the Hartree-Fock approximation. A simple expression for the magnetic energy is given for a small magnetization of the crystal. It allows for a qualitative description of different magnetic behaviours and magnetic couplings in transition metals. A simple impurity problem is then discussed, which might be applied to such alloys as Pd Ni, Pt Ni, etc. Keywords
