Abstract
The behaviour of the core and valence excitons in condensed matter interacting with the deformable lattice is studied with particular attention to the competition between localizing and delocalizing dispositions. The adiabatic potentials for these elementary excitations and the dynamics of their relaxation are qualitatively described and are correlated with the line shapes of the absorption and emission spectra associated with them. Keywords
