Abstract
The phosphorescence and x‐ray stimulated luminescence of a series of nominally pure MgO crystals has been investigated. We suggest that the series of emission peaks around 1.4eV is due to Mg(OH)2 impurity, and have presented evidence which substantiates the assignment of the 1.7‐eV and 2.5‐eV luminescence with Cr3+ and Ni2+, respectively. The effect of electron and neutron irradiation on the samples is also discussed. Keywords
