Abstract
Through the instrumentality of Dr. George N. Miller, at that time president of the New York Post-Graduate Medical School, funds were donated by Col. Robert M. Thompson of New York City and Mr. J. H. McFadden of Philadelphia to support a research expedition for the investigation of pellagra in the United States. It was decided that if possible a commission of three would be formed, one member to be designated by the Surgeon-General of the Army, one by the Surgeon-General of the Navy and one by the authorities of the New York Post-Graduate Medical School. Dr. Jonathan Wright, director of laboratories at the medical school, was requested by the school authorities to act in an advisory capacity. The commission was constituted as follows: Captain J. F.
