Abstract
AFTER intravenous injection bromsulfalein is bound to albumin and transferred primarily into the liver.1 , 2 The hepatic metabolism of the dye involves uptake and storage,1 , 2 intracellular formation of a glutathione conjugate3 4 5 and subsequent excretion of free and conjugated dye into the bile.4 , 6 The storage in parenchymal liver cells is directly proportional to the plasma concentration, whereas the transfer from the liver cell into the bile appears to be limited by a transfer maximum.2 , 7 A method for the simultaneous estimation of hepatic bromsulfalein storage and excretion has been presented by Wheeler et al.7 Values for the relative hepatic storage, expressed as milligrams . . .
