Abstract
The house cricket (Acheta domesticus L.) and field cricket (A. assimilis F., broad sense) have in recent years been separated from Gryllus and referred by many entomologists to Gryllulus Uv. Acheta F. 1775 (=Gryllulus) is an available genus (type, domesticus L.). The gender of Acheta, masculine, requires that the spelling domesticus be used when in that combination. Fulton (Tour. Elisha Mitchell Sci. Soc. 65: 204. 1949) has reported that 4 races of assimilis occur in N. Carolina. This suggests that the assimilis complex in the New World includes Various spp. and subspp., some not necessarily recognizable in collections but dependent for recognition on critical field studies. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
