Abstract
The serum hemagglutination-inhibiting and neuraminidase-inhibiting antibody response of hamsters, ferrets, and mice to inactivated influenza virus vaccination was enhanced by the prior infection of these animals with live, heterotypic influenza viruses. This priming effect was also elicited by prior immunization with inactivated, heterotypic influenza virus vaccines in adjuvant. Enhancement of the serum antibody response to inactivated influenza vaccines was not observed if the priming infection was given 20 weeks before immunization. No priming effect was demonstrated for type B influenza viruses. Keywords
