Abstract
A series of simple alcohols were deuterated in the hydroxyl group, and the Infrared spectra of both non‐deuterated and deuterated alcohols were comparatively studied in the spectral range 2000‐600 cm–1.The results (which should give a correct assignment for the OH in‐plane bending vibration) are by no means simple and three cases are encountered: when deuterating an alcohol.1°) one band disappears, and one new band appears by deuteration.2°) two bands disappear, and two new bands appear.3°) two bands disappear, but one new band only appears. These results are tentatively explained either by rotational isomerism or by coupling of some vibrational levels. Keywords
