Abstract
The convex shape of the outer end of the cap rays in Acetabularia mediterranea is a typical species specific character, probably determined by a corresponding «morphogenetic substance» of nuclear origin. When cysts differentiate, the outer end of the rays looses its convexity, becoming flat or concave. This phenomenon, which is observed only in laboratory cultures, may be related to a probable fall in the internal pressure of the cell. Keywords
